When the shape or optics of the eye are irregular, traditional glasses or contact lenses may not provide the clarity or quality of vision you need.
At Coastal Vision Medical Group, we use advanced diagnostic technology and highly customized treatment options to help patients with complex corneas achieve their best possible vision. By precisely evaluating both the shape of the eye and the way light travels through it, we can identify visual imperfections that conventional testing may not fully capture.
WaveDȳn® Vision Analyzer
The WaveDȳn Vision Analyzer provides an advanced assessment of the eye’s optical system. In addition to measuring standard vision errors such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, it can identify complex optical imperfections known as higher order aberrations.
These detailed measurements give our doctors a more complete understanding of each patient’s unique vision and can help guide highly personalized treatment.
Coastal Vision Medical Group utilizes WaveDȳn technology as part of our advanced vision analysis for select Light Adjustable Lens and scleral lens patients. For scleral lens patients, WaveDȳn measurements can be used to customize the optics of the lens through wavefront optimization, creating a personalized higher order aberration correcting lens designed around the patient’s unique optical system.
This advanced level of customization can help address residual optical imperfections that may contribute to symptoms such as glare, halos, starbursts, ghosting, or blurred vision even after conventional vision correction.
Coastal Vision Medical Group is one of a select few practices in Orange County to offer this advanced technology to patients.

For patients with irregular corneal shapes or more complex visual needs, standard glasses and contact lenses may not provide adequate vision or fit.
Coastal Vision Medical Group offers advanced customization using technologies designed to capture the unique shape and optical characteristics of each patient’s eye. These measurements allow our doctors to develop highly individualized solutions based on both the anatomy of the eye and the way the eye processes light.
EyePrintPRO uses an impression of the ocular surface to capture the unique contours of the eye. This detailed impression can be used to create a highly customized scleral lens designed specifically around an individual patient’s eye.
This level of customization can be especially valuable for patients with complex or irregular corneal anatomy where conventional fitting methods may be limited.

Advanced 3D Mapping of the Ocular Surface
Gaudi Corneal Scleroprofilometry, or CSP, provides detailed measurements of the cornea and surrounding scleral surface.
By capturing the unique contours of the eye, this technology gives our doctors additional information for designing and fitting highly customized lenses for patients with complex corneal shapes.
Coastal Vision Medical Group is the first practice in Orange County to use this advanced technology for patient care.
ANTERION® by Heidelberg Engineering
ANTERION uses advanced swept source OCT imaging to provide high resolution images and detailed measurements of the front of the eye, including the cornea and anterior segment.
For patients requiring advanced scleral lenses, these detailed measurements provide our doctors with additional information about the unique anatomy of the eye to help guide precise lens fitting and customization.
ANTERION complements our other advanced technologies, including EyePrintPRO, Gaudi Corneal Scleroprofilometry, and WaveDȳn wavefront analysis, allowing us to evaluate complex eyes using multiple advanced measurement technologies.

Some patients continue to experience glare, halos, starbursts, ghosting, blurred vision, or other visual disturbances even when their standard prescription has been corrected.
These symptoms can sometimes be caused by higher order aberrations, complex optical imperfections that cannot be fully corrected with a traditional glasses or contact lens prescription.
Using advanced WaveDȳn wavefront measurements, Coastal Vision Medical Group can evaluate these aberrations and, when appropriate, use that information to create customized optics for an advanced scleral lens.
Rather than correcting only nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, wavefront optimized scleral lenses can address more complex imperfections in the eye’s optical system with the goal of improving overall visual quality.
Residency Trained Care for Complex Corneas
Our advanced scleral lens services are provided by Stephanie Tran, OD, MS, FAAO, FSLS and Laura Belle Morel, OD, both of whom completed residency training in contact lenses.
Their advanced training and experience in specialty contact lenses allow them to evaluate and manage patients with complex corneal and optical conditions and incorporate technologies such as ocular surface mapping, impression based lens design, advanced anterior segment imaging, and wavefront optimized optical customization when appropriate.
Advanced evaluation may be appropriate for patients with:
Irregular or highly aberrated corneas• Keratoconus or other corneal ectasias
Corneal scarring or irregularities
Complex corneal shapes following previous eye surgery
Glare, halos, starbursts, ghosting, or blurred vision despite conventional correction
Difficulty achieving satisfactory vision with standard glasses or contact lenses
Other complex optical or corneal conditions
Every irregular cornea is different. Our approach begins with understanding both the unique shape and optical characteristics of your eyes.
By combining advanced wavefront analysis, detailed ocular surface mapping, impression based technology, anterior segment imaging, specialty contact lens expertise, and customized optical correction, Coastal Vision Medical Group can develop a vision solution tailored to your individual needs.
If an irregular cornea or complex optical condition is affecting your vision, schedule an evaluation with Coastal Vision Medical Group to learn whether advanced customized vision correction may be appropriate for you.
